Simone Corsi for the first time this season took a front-row start, but by the third corner was taken out in a crash that was not his fault. American Ben Spies (Yamaha) finished second in front of Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha), with Valentino Rossi (Yamaha) fourth ahead of Andrea Dovizioso (Repsol Honda RC212V).
